There has never been a time when there haven’t been dogs around me.

I learnt to walk pulling myself up on a lovely boxer bitch by the name of Kora, then there were the two black Chows, Dizzy and Gypsy (although they did have fancy breeders names), then came Vincent, Felix and Felix II  the Airdales, George the Westie, Max the Lhasa Apso, Moritz the Standard Poodle, Maggie the Spanish Waterdog, Lucky the Patterdale Terrier-Cross, Spezi the Terrier/Dachshund mix, Bazi the wirehair Dachshund.  I have hand-reared litters of puppies and taken stubborn dogs through doggie school – so I think it’s fair to say I’ve loved and cared for all manner of dogs in my life!

I don’t know why it took me so long to start combining my photography and my love of dogs. I think it might have been because dogs, to me, were family. Intrinsic to life. Not business or work.

I had spent the previous years photographing  babies and toddlers, and one day I figured – how much harder can it be to photograph a dog than to photograph a toddler? Both involve rolling around in the mud, running after my subject, and making weird noises in the hope of attracting their attention! They require lots of patience and understanding,  a sense of humour and a little discipline. They’re really not so different in many ways. 🙂

And so the idea of YBPHOTOGRAPHIC’s Bone Idol Dog Photography was born.

The central philosophy behind ALL of my portrait photography, is to capture the true essence of my subject. We love our dogs like family, but they are still real DOGS, no matter how big or small. They run and play and snooze and get dirty and wet and they love it! And I want to be there to capture all those moments for you to treasure and to remind you of your happy times together.
