This post features professional dog photography in South London by professional dog photographer Yvonne Blume for Bone Idol Dog Photography.
I’ve been looking forward to this shoot for ages, as I’ve met Miniature Schnauzer Frieda on several occasions and she’s just adorable. Frieda’s owner Andrew is a professional dog groomer, so Frieda always looks a treat (well, until I make of mess of her during our shoot!). Andrew’s business, The Handsome Hound, is based in the Basement of my favourite local pet shop, Tally’s Pet Boutique, and Frieda often hangs out with her mate Tally up in the shop.
For this shoot we went off to the Streatham Rookery, and there were lots of freshly cut grass and leaves everywhere and to get stuck in Frieda’s ‘tache. She didn’t seem to mind. Photographing black dogs can present a challenge on a sunny day, as the contrast between them and their background can be extreme, so it’s important to keep a careful eye on the light and to look for a bit of shade. With black dogs, I often prefer the black and white images, as it makes their blackness even more intense and stops the background from distracting the ever from the dogs lovely coat. So this blog post features lots of black and white photographs.
