When I go for a walk with my clients for their South London Dog Portrait Photography sessions, we are usually out for about one and a half hours or so. Not so with Diesel and Pickel, the Black Labrador and his buddy the Jack Russell cross. Both dogs are around 1 year old – so really still pups – and in Diesel’s case, a rather large one! We were out for nearly 3 hours!
The reason our walk through the wilderness of Dulwich Woods took so long was because I just couldn’t stop laughing at Diesel, the Black Lab. He loves sticks… well, when I say sticks, I mean logs! Diesel picks up every huge piece of wood he finds (which turns out to be quite a few in a forest!), most of which are bigger than he is, and tries to drag them around with him – with varying degrees of success. The funniest thing is when he tries to carry away fallen trees that are actually still rooted in the ground. The song and dance, yowling, half barking, growling and other noises of frustration that Diesel comes out with when he finds he can’t actually take the whole tree with him are hillarious! I have never seen anything quite like it. When he’s had enough of carrying the load Diesel takes literally seconds to chew those big chunks down to nothing but wood shavings. It was truly astonishing to behold.
Pickel the Jack Russell is gorgeous too, and sweet – but I have to admit, this was very much Diesel’s show. 🙂
